The best honeymoon hotels in Cape Town, Part 1…
by Gareth Hardres-William, 12 September 2017
The honeymoon is that most special of holidays, the one holiday more than any other that we are all desperate to get just right. In order for you to make the most informed decision about where to stay when in Cape Town, we at Mammoth Safaris recently hit the Cape Town hotel circuit to select a number of wonderful honeymoon hotels. We looked not only at the small boutique hotels, but also the larger, yet equally romantic options. Here is an exposé of 5 options in the first in a series on honeymoon hotel options in that most exciting of cities – Cape Town…
Africa offers so much choice for the honeymoon couple. From exotic islands to some of the most thrilling cities on the planet, romance abounds in Africa…
The Last Word – Long Beach
“The hidden gem defined”…“Remote and romantic”…
Kommetjie is a very romantic place – so we are already off to a good start there. Add to the romance of this small and quaint seaside village, the luxurious yet homely comforts of a boutique hotel centrally located on the Long Beach of this deeply southern suburb of Cape Town. Kommetjie is a little off the beaten track of the Cape Town hot spots, but does offer a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Waterfront and the city is a stunning 30 – 40 min drive away along Chapman’s Peak should you need your fix of urban. Other highlights close by include the wine farms of Noordhoek and Constantia, the Cape Point Nature Reserve and the penguins of Boulders Beach in Simons Town – all of that is in very convenient proximity to the hotel. Kommetjie offers a few restaurants and dinner can also be arranged to be enjoyed at the hotel, should you want to stay in. This small hotel offers rooms with incredible view out over the ocean and be sure to request an upstairs suite to make the most of this experience. This hotel won’t be everyones cup of tea, if only because it might be seen to be a little too remote, although if it is romantic solitude you are after and something a little different – then look no further than The Last Word – Kommetjie.
Highlights include…
- Small, intimate and homely
- Incredible sea views
- Immediate and private access to the beach from the hotel’s garden
- Inclusive “help yourself” bar
The Last Word Long Beach in the seaside hamlet of Kommetjie south of Cape Town offers a very romantic and unique seaside getaway. Close enough to the city, but also far enough away. The views of both mountain and sea from this intimate hotel are exceptional.
The Last Word Long Beach offers a delicious breakfast and other meals can be arranged with the concierge. After breakfast, the whole of the South Peninsula awaits and it is right on your doorstep.
Tintswalo Atlantic – Hout Bay
“The hidden gem defined”…
The individual island-themed rooms Tintswalo Atlantic are absolutely spectacular, quite incredible – and there is really not much else to be said. From the moment you are shuttled down the cliff-hugging path from the entrance gate to the very waters edge below, you realize you are in for an absolute treat. The driveway winds its way down the mountainside and delivers one to a very understated and homely welcome. Once you are escorted into the lounge areas you begin to see what all the fuss is about here. Firstly the interiors are simply exquisite and tremendously comfortable, but despite the luxury and finesse of the furnishings and the elegant decor, this all pales as your eyes are immediately drawn to the expansive sea view in front of you. The restaurant, bar and lounge areas all enjoy unrestricted views of the Atlantic ocean and the deck area is just perfect for relaxing. To the rooms – and one simply can’t go wrong with any of them. All individually themed and uniquely decorated, each room is a study in luxury and opulence. Every room has the added romantic touch of a fireplace and the views out to sea are again quite phenomenal. Tintswalo Atlantic is quite simply a dream destination, tucked away in a quiet corner of Cape Town. This is romantic with a capital “R”.
Highlights include…
- unrivaled sea and mountain views
- incredible fine dining
- island holiday feel
- consummate luxury
Stumble out of your Tintswalo Atlantic hotel room onto an incredibly beautiful and entirely private cobbled beach.
Be it from your bed or private deck, you can’t beat the views at Tinstwalo Atlantic. Here the sound of the ocean will gently send you off to sleep.
The Silo Hotel – V&A Waterfront
“The very definition of opulence”…
The Silo Hotel is built into the rectangular structure that formerly housed the elevator shafts of a redundant grain silo in the Table Bay harbor. This building has now been transformed from what was ostensibly a cement block into a shining beacon of design and architectural endeavor. The interiors of the hotel serve to further support the majesty of the gentrification of the space, with luxurious and opulent finishes everywhere. The emphasis here is on luxury, design and style and this spirit is nowhere better evidenced than in the “pillowed” windows that now envelop the building. Fast making the building a rejuvenated architectural icon, these windows – each with 56 hand cut panels making up one frame – offer exceptional views of the city and waterfront below, whilst also making the structure a site to behold in and of itself. The Silo Hotel fits perfectly into the stable of equisite offerings from the Royal Portfolio and would make for an utterly spoiling honeymoon experience in Cape Town. The rooms are all substantial, but none more so than the simply enormous presidential suite that wraps itself around much of the 10th floor.
Highlights include…
- unrivaled views of the city
- private rooftop bar and pool
- close to the hustle and bustle of the V&A Waterfront
- inhouse gym and spa
Architecturally spectacular both inside and out – the Silo Hotel is a visual treat and a truly unique place to celebrate your union.
Blackheath Lodge – Sea Point
“Luxury in service and attention to detail”…
What is luxury really? Is is the thread count on your cotton sheets, the label on the bottle of bubbly and the feeling of plush carpeting underfoot in a bathroom? Well, all these things do indeed leave one with a sense of luxury, but at the Blackheath Lodge, here they deliver the bulk of this sense through personal interaction and exceptional service. This boutique hotel in the trendy Sea Point neighborhood offers a number of very comfortable room options scattered across the rabbit warren like property, with something for everyone here. The hotel leaves one with a sense of homeliness and warmth and nothing is too much trouble for the staff here.
Highlights include…
- wonderful service
- countless room options
- cellphone and iPad in each room
- close to all Cape Town hotspots
The centre of the lovely courtyard at the Blackheath Hotel is dominated by a gorgeous swimming pool, a welcome respite from the warm Cape Town sunshine.
One of the many romantic rooms on offer at the Blackheath Lodge in Sea Point. Every room is unique and offers something wonderfully quirky and special.
The Last Word – Constantia
“Your honeymoon home away from home”…
As with all the hotels in the “Last Word” stable, this lovely boutique hotel in the leafy suburb of Constantia also offers a very homely and comfortable place to relax and unwind. Wonderfully situated close to all amenities and literally just down the road from Constantia’s famous wine farms, the Last Word Constantia is surrounded by a delightful garden and neighbors include a local restaurant and gorgeous horse stables. All the rooms are of a decent size, luxuriously fitted and offer wonderful privacy. An ideal honeymoon location to lounge by the pool and enjoy the birdsong.
Highlights include…
- Stunning swimming pool and garden
- Luxurious rooms
- Great rural-urban location
Delightful rooms, wonderfully decorated and quintessentially comfortable, the Last Word Constantia will not disappoint.
