Kenya is said to be home to the ‘original safari’. Indeed, the very word ‘safari’ is a Kiswahili one referring to a journey. Kenya, a bustling developing country, thankfully still has a dearth of protected wilderness areas all offering excellent safari opportunities for the novice and experienced traveller alike. The most famous of these areas is the Masai Mara – where the millions of migrating wildebeest, zebra and antelope gather for a few months each year.
The iconic elephant-filled views of Mount Kilimanjaro from Amboseli National Park, the Mara plains full of Wildebeest and Zebra and interactions with the bright red shuka-clad Masai tribesmen are all sought-after experiences on any Kenya safari. Further north, snow-capped Mount Kenya stands tall and proud making for excellent wildlife photography at the various parks and conservancies within view of it. Combining a vacation with Tanzania, Rwanda or Uganda is easy using the Nairobi airport hub which services most destinations in the region.

“Our family had a fabulous South African experience with Mammoth Safaris; from the booking and planning to the travelling and holiday itself. Alastair always had a quick response and was readily available with advice or alternatives as our plans and wishes changed.”
