Democratic Republic of Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is an enormous expanse of country and offers great diversity of habitat and subsequent experience that really has to be seen to be truly appreciated.  The eastern border region around Lake Kivu is the perfect place to put this to the test. Despite years of unrest in the DRC, a safe and enjoyable trip can most definitely be enjoyed here. Trips to the region combine very well with Rwanda and even other East Africa countries, such as Uganda. Combinations with more traditional safari (Kenya and Tanzania) and beach destinations (Zanzibar archipelago) are also easily arranged. The real attraction here in the DRC is the pioneering nature of the trekking and the safari, which gives one a real sense of discovery and adventure.  Much of the wildlife in the DRC is endemic to the rift valley region and in many cases quite breathtaking!
