The itinerary detailed below is a snapshot of the best on offer on the island. Madagascar is still being explored and discovered and Mammoth Safaris is at the forefront of this discovery.
James Bjorkman of the Netherlands shares his Mammoth Madagascar highlights…
“Last October I fulfilled a lifetime ambition to see the unique flora and fauna of Madagascar, the world’s fourth largest island that had been isolated for millions of years. Expertly guided by Mammoth Safaris’ Alastair Kilpin, our trio – a niece, her husband & I – visited the South’s arid Spiny Forest and lush seaside beaches, the Northeast’s verdant coastal rainforest, and national parks on the Central plateau where we encountered amazing wildlife. Although too many to list in full, among the gorgeous lemurs were white-furred Sifakas in the morning sun, gregarious Ringtails bouncing around forest floors, Red-ruffs’ quizzical looks, and the inimitable Indri’s haunting howl. Splendidly colored birds included Paradise Flycatchers, Crested and Blue Couas, Pygmy Kingfishers and Squacco Herons – and marvelously camouflaged chameleons appeared in astonishing sizes from fingernail minute to arm-length giants! Time was regrettably short but, assuming availability of a skilled guide, I would happily return in thrice to continue exploring the ‘land that time forgot’.
