The North of Madagascar covers a wide area from oceans to mountains and forests of different types. Best access is with flights from the capital, Antananarivo. Adventures here offer a balance of tranquility and excitement in equal measure. A trip to the North can be very diverse and as you search for the various endemic lemurs and birds in particular. The beaches here are a real hit too and well worth an equal measure of exploring and relaxing on.
Safaris in Madagascar are all about the unique and endemic animals. No lions and leopards here, but rather the quirky and cute lemurs and other interesting animals found nowhere else on the planet are to be found in the North of Madagascar. The north of Madagascar is also blessed with pristine beaches and unspoilt marine habitats that offer great whale watching in season, sea kayak trips, dhow safaris, yacht trips and great surfing. Underwater is another biome where Madagascar has so much to offer. Dive amongst eagle and manta rays as well as surgeonfish, triggerfish and barracuda, all in the gorgeous azure waters and amongst the coral reefs.
Also in the north is the island of Nosy Ankao part of approximately 15,000 hectares of protected marine space, which along with the adjacent mainland, makes up the Loky Manambato Protected Area.
