Gorongosa National Park

Gorongosa National Park is a conservation area at the terminus of the Great Rift Valley of Africa. Situated in central Mozambique, this vast and historic national park is renowned for Its forests and savannahs which are home to a host of fascinating creatures including, Lion, Hippopotamus, Elephants and antelope such as Sable, Reedbuck and Waterbuck. Lake Urema and the surrounding wetlands and rivers attract scores of water birds, from Ducks to Pratincoles and Storks to Darters. The gorgeous Murombodzi Falls spills over jagged rocks on the slopes of Mount Gorongosa, creating a delightful show of spray and mist. Gorongosa is a must for those win search of wilderness, space and adventure.

Established in 1960, the Gorongosa National Park experienced some difficult times leading up to where we find it today. Today it is a thriving ecosystem with ever-growing numbers of wildlife returning and reestablishing themselves here. Wars, illegal poaching and the pressures of a growing population put enormous pressure on this conservation area in its early years, but thankfully this is all a thing of the past. Gorongosa now offers a scintillating safari experience for the hardened safari-goer and the novice alike. There are wonderful photographic opportunities around virtually every corner and the unique and interesting abound here. Expect decent Lion sightings, wonderful elephant and lovely antelope. The bird life here is truly spectacular and a real attraction.
