Malaria has for centuries been a scourge and deterrant to African travelers. South Africa has the luxury of having numerous excellent safari destinations that fall outside ‘malaria areas’ and are great for family and honeymoon travel as well as for those with a serious wildlife interest.
The prime areas for ‘malaria-free’ safaris are the Kalahari, Madikwe, Waterberg and Eastern Cape. We work closely with a handful of lodges who are doing great work to protect fragile environments as well as deliver world-class safari experiences. Much of the wildlife that occurs in these areas is either endemic to the country or tough to view in traditional national parks, so these places are highly recommended for all types of safaris. Despite a reputation as having poor game-viewing, these places deliver consistent top quality safaris.
